Preceptorship Program

The Preceptorship Program provides an opportunity for chiropractic students to gain patient experience within a clinical setting and to develop a clear understanding of the CCOA’s regulatory requirements. The Preceptorship Program allows CCOA members to pass on experience, keep up to date with chiropractic curricula, and establish relationships with chiropractic students.

Member Qualifications

Members on the CCOA's General Register will be eligible for approval as a supervising preceptor if they:

  • have a minimum of five years practice experience
  • are a member in good standing
  • completed their most recent practice review satisfactorily with no outstanding issues or requirements (the most recent practice review may not have been a remedial review)
  • have no discipline activity currently or for the previous five years
  • demonstrate the appropriate liability protection for supervising chiropractic students

Student Qualifications and Limitations

  • Students must be within six months of graduation from an accredited chiropractic college.
  • Preceptorship students may only perform duties/activities under the direct supervision of an approved and registered Alberta chiropractor.

Application process

Applications must be received a minimum of 30 days before the proposed preceptorship start date.

There are three components to the Preceptorship application, including contracts between the CCOA and:
  1. The student
  2. The supervising CCOA member
  3. The student’s college of attendance
All three contracts must be completed, signed, and submitted to the CCOA. The chiropractor, student and chiropractic college will be informed of the application outcome.
