The CCOA Webinar Series

The CCOA Webinar Series is designed to provide a look at current trends, issues and opportunities associated with being a regulated member of the CCOA.

Attending the webinars allows regulated members to further their knowledge and skills in providing safe, competent and ethical care to patients.

Each webinar offers a discussion between the CCOA Registrar and a guest speaker about the topic, followed by a Q&A session based on questions attendees submit through the Zoom chat feature.

The webinars will be hosted in Zoom. Check your email from the CCOA for your link. 

CC Credit for attendance to the CCOA webinars

The College of Chiropractors of Alberta is using the ZOOM attendees list to apply CC credits. If you attended a live webinar, one credit will be applied by CCOA to your Member's Profile.

You do not have to provide a PDF proof of attendance; the attendance list is sufficient. Please allow up to 10 business days for the credit to appear in your Member’s Profile.

Each webinar will be archived for future viewing but will not be eligible for credit.

Webinar 1: Protecting your Patients using Professional Boundaries 

The College of Chiropractors of Alberta (CCOA) hosted a webinar on professional boundaries with Dr. Dean Wright, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association (CCPA) and CCOA Registrar Dr. Todd Halowski on February 23, 2023.

In this webinar, Dr. Wright and Dr. Halowski discussed the trends in violations and provide practical advice that chiropractors can use to ensure professional boundaries are maintained.

Webinar 2: The Role of Evidence for the Chiropractic Profession

The College of Chiropractors of Alberta hosted a webinar on “The Role of Evidence for the Chiropractic Profession” on April 19, 2023. CCOA Registrar Dr. Todd Halowski welcomed guest, Dr. Steven Passmore, Associate Professor of the University of Manitoba for a lively discussion on evidence-based chiropractic care.

In the webinar, Dr. Passmore, who is a researcher and clinician, shared a presentation illustrating the role of evidence for the chiropractic profession. Click here to view his presentation slides.

Webinar 3: Roadmap to Better Clinical Records

The College of Chiropractors of Alberta hosted a “Roadmap to Better Clinical Records” webinar on May 4, 2023. CCOA Registrar, Dr. Todd Halowski, moderated a lively discussion about record keeping between Dr. Shima Shahidy, Director of Claims, Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association (CCPA), and Dr. Katy Pedden, Chair, CCOA Competence Committee. Learn from the presenters’ experiences, including the successes and deficiencies of clinical records they have observed!

Now more than ever, detailed clinical records are essential to the chiropractor. Clinical records are:

used to tell the story of what happened during a patient visit.

audited by the College of Chiropractors of Alberta (CCOA) Competence Committee using the Standards of Practice and the CCOA Record-keeping Requirements Guide to assess compliance as part of the practice reviews that all CCOA members complete.

reviewed to assess a situation should you have a complaint or malpractice claim.

Webinar 4: CCOA’s Role as the Regulator for the Chiropractic Profession

The College of Chiropractors of Alberta held a webinar on the "CCOA’s Role as the Regulator for the Chiropractic Profession” on February 7 & 8, 2024, hosted by council chair, Dr. Jason Hollingsworth and CCOA CEO, Linda Sahli.

In the webinar, Dr. Hollingsworth and Ms. Sahli shared how the CCOA is guided by its mission to serve the public interest through regulation, and ensure safe, competent and ethical care is provided to Albertans. They additionally described how right-touch regulation and values-based decision making are applied to govern and operate in a manner that fulfills and enhances its legislated mandate of public trust and professional accountability.
